The Turtl difference shows how your Turtl content is performing in terms of average read time compared to the expected read time for web content or a PDF of the same length.
How is the Turtl difference calculated?
The Turtl difference sums the average read time across all of your Docs and compares it to the expected read time for web content of similar lengths. This is calculated by:
1. Calculating the average read time for each Doc in the team and summing it all together.
We calculate the average read time by dividing the total time the readers spent reading the Doc by the number of unique readers:
Turtl read time = Average read time (Doc 1) + Average read time (Doc 2) + …
2. Calculating the expected read time for typical web content for each Doc in the team (we use the research here to check the expected read time for content with a similar amount of words). Then we sum it all together:
Web content read time = Expected read time (similar number of words as Doc 1) + Expected read time (similar number of words as Doc 2) + …
3. The Turtl difference is the percentage difference between the two calculated numbers above.
Turt difference = (Turtl read time - Web content read time) / Web content read time
Notes:
The Turtl difference banner is visible to all users/roles.
The data is recalculated once a day.
The reader engagement is calculated for all time.
The data excludes nested Docs.
