Convert your PDF into a Turtl Doc

In Turtl, you can convert your existing static content into an interactive Turtl Doc.

Your content needs to be in a PDF format to convert within Turtl, however, you can easily convert other formats, such as a Google Doc, into a PDF before uploading into Turtl. Take a look at our support article for info on the ideal PDFs to convert if you have existing content to import and how to convert other formats to PDFs.

To convert your PDF into an interactive Turtl Doc, begin by clicking the 'Create new' button in the top right corner.

Name the Doc, select a brand theme (if you have more than one), and language, then hit the "Create" button. You can select a workspace if you have one, but a Doc can also sit outside any workspace. You can create a workspace later.

You can also upload a PDF from within the Creation Studio by clicking on the three dots menu and selecting 'Upload PDF'.

After uploading, these options are presented:

If you select 'Turtl gets you started', you can opt out of AI options:

Or, you can use AI-powered technology to enrich your Doc:

  • AI image suggestions: We'll use AI to pick relevant royalty-free images to improve your Doc where necessary.

  • AI content enrich: We'll use AI to understand your content and generate quotes & polls to make the content more engaging

Take a look at our FAQs for more information on the AI used when converting. If you decide that you don’t want to use the options above, feel free to toggle them off.

When you’re ready, click 'Build the Doc'. This may take a few minutes depending on the size of the PDF. If you decide to stop the conversion, you can do so by clicking 'Stop converting'. If you’re having any trouble converting a PDF, take a look at our FAQs or reach out to the support team at support@turt.co.

We automatically detect images that contain text. Next step allows you to decide whether you want to extract text from images we or not. Untick the image if you do not wish to extract the text from image to edit it further.

The final step before the conversion is complete is to review your table of contents. We automatically detect your main chapters and sub-chapters and you can then rearrange the hierarchy as you’d like to. Once you’re ready, click 'Finish converting'.

Once your Doc is converted, check through the content to make any tweaks before publishing. All of the images from the PDF will be available to use in the media library, which can be accessed within the 'PDF images' tab upon uploading images on Surf or Immerse level. So, if any weren’t included during the conversion or you’d like to reuse them, you can easily add them into the Doc.

You can also access the content from the original PDF by clicking on 'Insert content from PDF' in the Immerse editor. This allows you to manually add a page or pages from the PDF.
