Content pages belong to your Title pages and contain your content. Most of your content will be created using the Content page editor.
To access the Content page editor, click on the Title page to expand the Chapter, then click on the Content page in the outline. This will open the page for editing, allowing you to start adding text, images, and other elements directly.
Content page editor at a glance
The Content Page editor offers various tools to help you customize your content pages efficiently.
Here’s a quick overview of the key options:
Undo: Revert the most recent change.
Redo: Reapply the last undone action.
Settings: Customize your content page with the following options:
Grid: Switch between freeform layout or columns.
Background: Select a background color for your page.
Display Rules: Set personalization rules for your content.
Rename page / page group: Rename your page/page group. This is useful for page group analytics.
You can either start adding content from scratch or select a template.
By default, the page will use a freeform grid.
However, you can also choose to switch to columns and make them your default page layout (or vice versa if columns are already the default).
This setting is specific to each user and will not impact other users creating Docs.
Add content
Use widgets to add features to your content pages, such as maps, sharable quotations, and images. Click on the "Add content" to display a menu with widgets.
Pick a template
You can choose a template to populate a new content page. Make sure to select the right template based on whether your page is set to freeform or columns, as different layouts will affect how your content appears.
Preview
The preview is on the right-hand side of the editor. Here, you can pin your content, layer widgets, access the widget settings in the right-click menu, and resize your widgets.
Formatting toolbar
The formatting toolbar provides quick access to text formatting options and is available whenever you highlight text in the editor. Select the text you want to edit, and the toolbar will appear with tools to customize your content.
Formatting text
Your text automatically has your brand styling applied, making it easy for you to create consistent on-brand content.
However, you can further customize your content by selecting various headings and text sizes as well as drop caps.
What are drop caps?
A drop cap is a large capital letter that you can insert in your text to add style and emphasis.
Standard formatting options: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, bulleted lists, numbered lists, font color, superscript, subscript, transform text to uppercase, transform text to lowercase, text alignment.
Remove space option
Utilize the "Remove space after" function to eliminate any unnecessary spacing. This feature works with both free-flowing text and the text box. Select the text you want to adjust and click the "Remove space after" button. Clicking it once will remove all spacing after the selected text, and clicking it again will revert back to the original spacing.
Letter spacing
You can adjust the letter spacing to get rid of widows and orphans within the editor by using the increase/decrease letter spacing feature.
Position your cursor at the end of the text and click on the increase or decrease letter spacing buttons. This will bring up a user interface that shows the change in letter spacing in em units.
Adding links to your content
Use the link and unlink buttons to add or remove a link from your text.
Once you've clicked the link button you'll be able to:
Choose to link to a URL, email address, or Title page within your content using the link dropdown.
Choose how the link should be styled using the style drop-down (styles must have been configured as part of your branding).
When a word is linked, it will be underlined, and the text color will automatically change to your brand's default color.
Adding column and page breaks
Note: Column and page breaks can only be used when the grid is in column mode. These options are not available on freeform pages since the content is pinned, and the layout doesn't require such functions.
You can use the column and page break buttons on the column page to force a break in your content. The text below your column or page break will automatically begin on the next column/page.
Further options
Show content grid
Use the "content grid" to view your Content pages with a line grid applied. This allows you to line up content across columns and make sure your images are the same height.
When moving widgets around, lines will appear on the Doc when the widget is aligned with the center of the page or the center of another widget. The same applies to aligning the edges of two widgets.
Mobile preview
Switch to "mobile preview" to see how your content will look on mobile devices (in portrait) by clicking the mobile icon at the top of the editor. More on mobile view here.
Show insights options
Turtl generates a content score for your Doc while you are creating or editing content. Find out more about Insights.
Expand / collapse the preview and editor
The editor is split into two sections: the editing area on the left and the Preview on the right. You can adjust the size of either section by dragging the middle divider to enlarge the editing or the Preview area as needed.
Focus in editor buttons
You can find a widget's location using the "Focus in preview" button or by clicking on the widget in the Preview window.
The UI automatically jumps the widget's location.
