Microsoft Dynamics tracking code and custom events

Using the Microsoft Dynamics tracking code to centralize contact engagement data and identify known contacts.

Enable Microsoft Dynamics tracking to send contact activity to Microsoft Dynamics when contacts interact with your Turtl content.

How to enable the tracking code

To enable the tracking code, please follow the steps below:

1. Copy your tracking script.

In Microsoft Dynamics, navigate to CI-J Settings > Web Tracking > Add Tracking Script (CI-J) and copy the tracking script provided.

2. Access the Integrations Hub

To access the Integrations Hub, click on "Integrate" on the left hand menu.

The Integrations screen will show all available integrations in a grid layout.

3. Configure and enable the tracking code

Click on Microsoft Dynamics.

Under the settings tab, navigate to the Configure Microsoft Dynamics Integration section and paste your tracking script into the Tracking code box and click save.

Click on "Reader Intent Data" to expand the section.

Toggle on the setting to enable the tracking code across your Docs.

What information does the tracking code collect by default?

The Microsoft Dynamics tracking code collects the following engagement activities by default:

  • Website/page visits — A page-view event is recorded each time a tracked page loads.

  • Link clicks — An event is recorded each time a reader clicks a link on a tracked page. The full destination URL is captured.

How do the default events appear in Microsoft Dynamics?

You can verify that tracking is working by creating new content, viewing it, and then checking whether the page-view activities appear in Microsoft Dynamics.

To view the collected data:

  1. Navigate to Contacts.

  2. Open the relevant contact record.

  3. Select the Summary tab.

  4. Review the Timeline section.

Website/page visits and link clicks will appear as activity entries in the timeline, alongside the contact's other engagement history.

How to send custom contact engagement events to Microsoft Dynamics?

Within Integrations, click Microsoft Dynamics, then go to the Settings tab and open the Reader Intent Data section.

Under Custom events, you can now automatically enable custom events yourself by expanding each heading and toggling on the options you want.

Once selected, you’ll see the following confirmation:

You will then automatically see each selected custom event in your Microsoft Dynamics account.
