Personalization Form Fields
Learn all about the different types of form fields available for personalizations

In this article we will go over the following Personalization page aspects:

1. Introduction to personalization form fields

There are two different categories of Form fields you can choose from: Inputs and Layouts.

The Input fields enable you to add content to your personalization (text, images, lists, etc). These fields will have Basic and Advanced settings that you can adjust when needed.

Under the Basic settings you will find:

  • Token: Token is case sensitive and will be matched to content and page rule %tokens%

  • Label: Set the main label for the form field

  • Default: Set the value shown to readers of your Doc if a personalized value has not been provided

  • Prefill Value: This value will be used to pre-populate the form field for personalizers. It will be submitted as-is unless the user changes the value when filling in the form

  • Placeholder: Set the placeholder text for the form field

Under the Advanced settings you will find:

  • Required: Required fields must be completed before a personalization form can be submitted.

  • Enabled: Disabled fields cannot be edited when filling in a personalization form, but any value they contain will still be submitted.

  • Visible: Hidden fields are not shown when filling in a personalization form, but any value they contain will still be submitted.

The Layout fields add structure and organization to your personalization form. These are great for managing the different parts of the form and make it easy for personalizers to input information.

2. Inputs

Single line

The Single line field allows the personalizer to add a short line of text or single word to the personalization:

Multi line

The Multi line field is best used for adding multiple sentences or longer text into the doc:

Drop down

The Drop down field allows you to choose one option from a drop down list. This option will populate in the personalization wherever the token is placed.

Checkboxes

The Checkboxes field is used for when you want to select more than one option. This field is great to use when choosing which pages or content should be included in a personalization.

File upload

Add a File upload field if you would like the ability to add an image to your doc from your computer.

Note: File upload field is not applicable for public personalizations, as this would cause a security risk. For more information on personalization types click here.

Choice

The Choice field allows the personalizer to choose from one of the choices available to include in the personalization. You can choose to have the layout of this field as either Vertical or Horizontal. You can also choose to make it multiple choice.

Logo

The Logo field allows you to add your customer's logo to your personalization.

To use this field, you will need to enter your customer's website URL or upload the logo manually by uploading a file.

Note: Manual logo upload is not applicable for public personalizations, as this would cause a security risk. For more information on personalization types click here.

Homepage

The Homepage field enables you to add a screenshot of your customer's website to your personalization. To do this, you will need to paste your customer’s website URL into the form field.

Here is an example of how the homepage can look in your personalization:

In order for the homepage to look pretty, it needs an appropriate image added (e.g. with a computer screen) and some custom code to position the homepage.

Another important thing to mention is the display image has to be perfect shape like a square that is proportioned - not skewed.

Meaning the left image is not okay and the right image is.

Notes:

  • Home field is not applicable for public personalizations, as this would cause a security risk. For more information on personalization types click here.

  • If the generated homepage image has additional pop-up messages blocking the image, we have the option of replacing the image. Please contact your Turtl representative or support@turtl.co if you would like to replace it.

Vidyard

The Vidyard field enables you to add a video onto the cover of your personalization. You can choose to record a video when you fill out the personalization or you can upload one from Vidyard.

Notes:

  • You must have a paid Vidyard account in order to use this field.

  • Vidyard field is not applicable for public personalizations, as this would cause a security risk. For more information on personalization types click here.

  • Vidyard field has a default placement. If you would like to change the placement, please contact your Turtl representative or support@turtl.co.

Bombbomb

The BombBomb field enables you to add a video onto the cover of your personalization. You can choose to record a video when you fill out the personalization or you can upload one from BombBomb. You’ll need a BombBomb integration set up in order to use this field. See how to set this up in our support article here.

Once you’ve added the BombBomb field to your form, under the ‘Basic’ tab, the Input component should have a token named “bombbomb_config_token” and a “Prefill value”. These will automatically be added for you. The Prefill value is taken directly from your BombBomb Agent API Key that you sent to us.

Under the advanced tab, the input component should be hidden.

Video

If you don’t have a Vidyard account or BombBomb integration, you can instead use the Video field to record or upload a video to your personalization.

  • Video field has a default placement. If you would like to change the placement, please contact your Turtl representative or support@turtl.co.


3. Layouts

Section

The Section field can help break up the form into separate sections. For example you could have a client information section, a content section, etc:

Step

The Step field helps break up the form into separate steps so that the form is easier to manage and easier to fill out for the personalizer.

Drag and drop the Step field in between other form fields:

This is what it will look like when you personalize the doc:

The buttons to navigate between the steps in your form will default to next and back, but you can customize these when editing your form.

Each step acts as a separate page of your form. Here are some key things to note:

  • The first step in your form will only display a next button and not a back one. The back button will still be editable when building your form but won't be visible when personalizing your Turtl Doc.

  • The final page of the form will always use the same text for the back button as the page before. You can't edit this separately.

  • The default text for the buttons (next and back) will get translated if you update the Doc language. However, if you edit the text to something custom then this will not get translated.

Heading

The Heading field is another way to organize your form - you can use this to break the form up with headings.

Text

The Text field is best used for providing instructions or further descriptions throughout the form:

Build Content Button

The Build Content button will appear automatically on your personalization form. Click on the button in the form builder to be able to edit the button text in the basic tab on the right-hand side.

Note: The default 'Build Content' button text will get translated if you update the Doc language. However, if you edit the text to something custom then this will not get translated.
